On 3rd Ocotber 2001, Chief Minister Datuk Chong Kah Kiat announced the following Action Plan for economic recovery to be implemented by the State Government with immediate effect.
All State and Federal Agencies are to mobilize and intensify their efforts to ensure the speedy implementations of the approved 8th Malaysia Plan projects and programmes especially the Federal Funded Projects;
State Economic Planning Unit and Federal Department of Development are to monitor the implementation of the priority projects/programmes identified under the States eight strategic thrusts and the national stimulus package;
The State Finance Ministry, in collaboration with relevant State and Federal Agencies, to accord priority to revenue generating projects and programmes and economic activities that have spin-off effects;
All relevant Agencies to expedite the implementation of Government projects/programmes and private sector investments by minimising bureaucratic red-tape and impediments such as the implementation of existing and new small-scale projects that will generate business and income opportunities for small contractors and entrepreneurs; and
To complement the above, the State Government will take steps to minimize duplication of activities of government departments and statutory bodies and, where necessary, merging and or right-sizing of these agencies to be effected to minimize the drain of government funds and resources especially the parasitic agencies.
